Font Explanation

The display and typing of Russian text throughout Russnet is now based on Unicode, a robust and widely used standard for encoding text. This means that you no longer need any special fonts to type or read Russian in Russnet.

There are two options for typing in Russian thoughout the site:

1. Use the built-in Russnet Online Keyboard.

If you are not set up to type in Russian on the computer you are working on, you do not need to change the settings on your computer or install any additional software. We provide an online keyboard driver for you whenever you want to type anything in Russian. The driver supports both the Phonetic and Standard Russian keyboard layouts and is quite simple to use. We have provided a sample text field below where you can test out how the language support works. Clicking on the 'Language' bar at the top right of the field allows you to switch between Russian (Phonetic and Standard) and English.

2. Use the keyboard driver that is installed on your computer.

If you are working at a machine that has a Russian keyboard driver installed on it, you are welcome to use it on the site. This means that you would change between Russian and English exactly as you would if you were typing in a Word document, etc.
