Olympiada of Spoken Russian 2004

Notes from the Chicago Olympiada Meeting, December 29, 1999

Elementary School Students Elementary school students may participate in the Olympiada on Level I at the discretion of the respective state/regional chair.

Modifications for levels I and II

  • Commissions I and III - everyday speech, reading/discussion/poem - will remain unchanged
  • Commission II - civilization - students will prepare for one topic only: either geography, history, art or music et al.

Modifications for levels III, IV/V

  • Commissions I and III - everyday speech,r eading/discussion/poem - remain unchanged.
  • Commission II - civilization - unchanged. however, there will be one additional requirement. After answering questions based on the card drawn, students will draw a second card. They will have 2-3 minutes to prepare a presentation on one topic listed on that particular card. Minimal notes on a 3x5 card will be allowed.

Pilot: Tele-computer Olympiada

  • As a pilot, a tele-video-computer Olympiada region will be established in 2004 for the benefit of schools in remote locations that have difficulty reaching an Olympiada site. Reccomendation of state;regoinal chair is required.
  • Equipment Needed: internet access, quick cam or equivalent camera, Intel web videophone and/or Microsfot net meeting (programs) or internet video conferencing,microphone for computer sound input. Estimated cost: less than $100.
  • Organizational parameters: Students from one school must assemble in one location. There will be a minimum of three jdugesin various locations. The usual rules for Olympiada will apply. Three schools will be invited in 2004 with a time/date to be arranged with each school.
  • Jim Sweigert, Iowa chair, will facilitate each school's participation.
